Growing Out and Moving On

Summer 2008 December 2008

Why, yes, I am growing my hair out and a beard at the same time. People have been stopping me lately and asking me about either or both.

For the last couple of years, I've looked like the photo on the left, practically shaving my head on the sides and keeping it pretty close on the top with my only facial hair being on the chin. These past few weeks have been pretty busy, busier than normal for the end of the semester for me. I haven't had time to get my hair cut. And after Thanksgiving, I barely had time in the mornings to shave. So I stopped. Thus, the photo on the right that I took about ten minutes ago.

I was actually curious how much grey would start appearing on my face. The last time I did a beard was in 2006, and that only last a week. Before that, I can't remember. I don't like how they look on me even though I love them on most other guys. The growth pattern was always strange to me. But this one is looking better than in the past.

As for the hair, I'm thinking of letting it grow for a bit and then going into a salon somewhere and saying, "What can you do with this?" I have a bald spot in the back that throws me off. I don't want to look like those guys trying to hide it, nor do I want to ignore it and try to style it in some way that makes me look like I'm in denial. Oh, the struggles I have in life!

Take this entry as symbolizing some of the changes I'm taking mentally. In various ways and for various reasons, I plan to spend the next few months making some shifts in my life, all of which I will outline.

And all of which are intended to be good things

  1. I like both looks. I wish you the best as you work through these changes.

  2. Stay away from spray-on hair--some changes can come undone in the rain and bleed all over a clean shirt. That's all I'm sayin'. I like the fuller beard on you. Very handsome.
